Council 32: It’s Official!
Council 32 is the product of more than a year’s work by members and staff, who designed a framework that provides fair representation for AFSCME members from all work sectors and regions and sets the stage for an historic opportunity for growth.
Council 32 will be governed by a 25-member Executive Board and led by Paul Spink of Milwaukee, who will serve as Council 32’s first president. A licensing specialist with the state Department of Children and Families, brother Spink serves as president of statewide Local 2748 and has been a driving force in AFSCME’s Next Wave movement.
Mike Fox, a recently retired director from Pennsylvania Council 13, is serving as interim executive director for Council 32. He’ll handle administrative matters until the Executive Board chooses a new, permanent director for Council 32. Rick Badger was chosen as the new Executive Director for Council 32 in July of 2015.
The new Council will spark a renewed focus to organizing, building on the success that recently has seen AFSCME add more than 140,00 new members across the nation.
“Together we will build a bigger, bolder and stronger union that will make a real difference for all working families and get our state moving forward again,” Spink said.
